Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever, now involving millions of people across the country. It is based on the simple idea that you and your neighbours can help to reduce crime and create a better place to live, work and play.

Around 100,000 households in Hertfordshire are members of Hertfordshire Neighbourhood Watch, which is more than 1 in 5 of our residential addresses. The number of new members is increasing all the time, at a rate of about 500 per month.

Hertfordshire Neighbourhood Watch is structured to align with the county’s ten policing districts. There are also several other ‘themed’ watches, including Dog Watch, Business Watch and Rural Watch.

HertsWatch unites these watches in Hertfordshire in order to help and inform residents, businesses and organisations and to encourage them to join a watch in their area - all with a common aim - to keep it the safest county in the UK and the one with the lowest crime figures.

We also have very good working relationships with the Safer Neighbourhood Teams throughout Hertfordshire Police.

One of the key weapons in our armoury is the Online Watch Link system, or OWL, which gives people who have signed up instant access to local messages and alerts, crime prevention advice and other messages from both Neighbourhood Watch and your local Police team via secure email, or by text or phone if you prefer.
