A Guide to Neighbourhood Watch and other Watch Schemes in Hertfordshire

Reg Law 88 years young was presented with an ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award for service to St.Albans Neighbourhood Watch.

Reg has been a founder member of Neighbourhood Watch since 1997 and has dedicated 50 years of his life to helping the community. He commented: “I am delighted to receive this award but feel that reducing crime and the fear of crime is a community action, I merely co-ordinate things. It’s all about being a good neighbour and St.Albans has a very strong Neighbourhood Watch working in partnership with St.Albans police.

When Reg first began his involvement with St.Albans Neighbourhood Watch he committed himself to bringing the local community together. From a handful of members pledging to help reduce crime locally, to an organisation now of over 6000 members of which Reg is Chairman.

Despite his age Reg insists that the ‘Kettle is always on’ and he makes himself available to anybody who needs help. He is a popular sight at many community events promoting Neighbourhood Watch including a market stall in St.Albans.

He added “mark my words, if we do not reach out to our neighbours and watch out for the vulnerable, we are all going to live with a fear of crime. I urge everybody to join their local Neighbourhood Watch and experience what it is like to be part of a massive community such as ours”
